Hello Peter Martin

Read your article in the SMH of 29th September 2015,but take a different view.
Scott Morison's slogan.Work-Save_Invest is a simple message with deep beneficial meaning, that the majority would understand. Leigh Sales made a mistake when interviewing Scott Morrison, given four sets of numbers, including GDP and unemployment numbers, that you can make certain assumptions.
Some would agree but others may make a different assumption.
Australia has basked in affluence for the past 20 years.Employers have passed on increases in employees pay because they could pass them on with higher prices to the public.
The music played and the merry goround continued spinning.
Australias history is a continuous round of boom to bust,a lot of the population expect it to continue.
Donald Horn expressed it in his book "Luck Country " a nation run by second rate officials.
We have just been through a ten year mineral boom, the cupboard is bare, infact we now have debt.
Some countries in similar situations established Soverign Wealth Funds, notably Norway now has $ 882 Billion US invested, earning income to protect its citizens in the future.
Our politicians decided to spend our wealth boom, with tax cuts and higher wages etc.
Now politicians face the thought of loosing their cushy jobs and are fearful, the polls reinforce this fear,by jettisoning their leader.
We have now lost the majority of our manufacturing sector, to China,,a lower cost country.
Morrisons belief "We have a spending problem" in my view is correct,I don't know how many would share this view.
Australia now has a large percentage of the population who were born overseas, possably 40%. Some have come from countries with frugal economies ,their lives have been transformed, most have worked long hard hours, resulting in home ownership and businesses. They have been enterprising !
Another sector of the Australian public are in the entitlement camp, demanding more .
My generation lived by the belief "Head down get on with the job, dont make any waves",possably established over several generations.
Subsequent generations have been taught to "Speak up,express yourself" its better for your ego
Somewhere all these different attitudes ,beliefs and values have to be resolved.
Last night on TV we may have seen the first signs of our change in direction.Blue Scope employees resolved to accept the company's plan to cut costs to stay in business,so protecting workers jobs.
Australia has to survive in a world economy, it cannot go on borrowing in the hope that another boom is just over the hill.
The politicians and the journalists, now have to tell the truth, they cannot continue to present a fantasy.
