In the early1950's it continued at Rushcutters Bay park where we would meet of a Sunday for some fun. I would walk over the Darling Point hill from Double Bay, and they would come from Kings Cross.
These young men had different backgrounds, to the average students family, they were bought up by single mothers
I was always attracted by the different, and while my father was away in Syria with the AIF, I was brought up by my mother too.
Forward 70 years, during which time most males were working in jobs, enduring further studies, travelling, attempting to discover what they were best suited for, having relationships, and dealing with difficulties life presented.
Our oldboys network was throwing up names for our annual 48-49 reunion to be held at the Greenwood Hotel at North Sydney. There was one I remember Justin.
So being a person that enjoys a mild adventure, I rang his number and explained my call and name,Malcolm, reminding him he had coached our junior rugby football team in 1946.
Justin explained he had had a stroke, and was now fitted with a pacemaker, so it was virtually impossable for him to remember me.
I subsequent calls to his wife Judy it was arranged we should meet at their East Balmain unit for lunch.
A roundabout ferry voyage from Watsons Bay called at Circular Quay,Luna Park McMahones Point and finally East Balmain.
During our three hour lunch, amongst Justin's vast range of paintings,we were able to divulge our varied life experiences.and I witnessed tender expressions of genuine affection , which demonstrated they were enjoying the elixir of life.
I left them with a copy of my Schoolboy Memories .
