MURRUMBIDGEE River where a giant Carp took my flipper

The Murrumbidgee River is a major tributary of the Murray River, and the second longest river in Australia .It descends 1,500 meters from Peppecorn Hill in the Fiery Range in the Snowy Mountains to the confluence of the Murry River near Boundary Bend .The name means Bigwater in the Wiradjjuri language.
The river is an important source of irrigation water for the Riverina farming area.

The beach on the edge of Narranderra Common where quiet relaxation can be experience in  natural landscape surroundings with some wildlife , can be  is a good way city folk to unwind from the stresses of city living.

Our family had journeyed 500 kilometers from Sydney to join a family reunion of the Murphys, with Geoff and Tim with wives and grandchildren. The experience we enjoyed most was swimming in cool waters of the Murrumbidgee River to alleviate the 40 degree heat.
We had not been here for seven years so it was interesting to witness the changes that had taken place.
The town had shrunk, with population down.due to lack of employment for young people, services restricted or moved to large regional centres like Wagga Wagga, where doctors are freely available.
We were dissapointed with lack of barbers and our experience when we took Shirley out to dinner was poor, having to wait over an hour for our meal in the heat, was not what many city folk accept.
The quiet understated family discussion was of great benefit when experiencing these conditions.plus sampling some local wine and drinks.
Even the experience of shopping at Aldi were different with the Edgecliff staff addressing male customers as sir, whereas Wagga staff use a more familiar expression " have a good one "when exiting the cash register.
The grandchildren are also benefiting from improved schooling in the city learning languages like Japanese.
On our return along the Stuart Highway we saw few green paddocks, limited irrigation and fortunately some rolled bales of hay.We wondered if the grain silos we passed were 1/2 full or empty.

Floating down river, listening to bird calls ,is therapy for city dwellers.
Tourism is an area that Narrandera could develop, the decorations on the towns water storage tanks is a good move,to attract grey nomads traveling through the area.

Leaving  the river swim with only one flipper, where is the Carp who took my other flipper ?
