The Lord Will Provide

This is a sign that hung in our entrance hall of our Double Bay house for a number of years
its purpose then was to provide mirth and laughter to all who entered. The family believed that only hard work and a degree of austerity would provide food and shelter.
These values had probably been established over several generations in Scotland and Australia,as great grandfather was an Elder with the Presbyterian Church at Neutral Bay and donated land in Yeo street for the building of the existing church and Craig Hall.
My grandfather professed to be Presbyterian on any documents requiring classification, and inflicted on his children a strict austere  Sunday routine of no playing  the radio.
The effect on my mother was to allow her children freedom on Sunday to be involved in all types of outdoor activities, which is considered quite normal.
We children did question our mother at being remiss with our religious upbringing at one stage but  that idea soon dissolved in time.
On reading Scott Peck's book "The Road Less Travelelled" which deals with discipline, delayed gratification and responsibility and spiritual growth, not related to any one particular religion,it triggers some interesting ideas.
We all need belief, and with quality parenting we should be able construct a flexible life plan.Peck stated that truth be more important than our self interest.
