recommended as a place of interest my expectations were high.
We soon reach Frohnau , a neighbourhood not examined by Lonely Planet .
My first impression is a old train station displaying some traditional German architecture , the streets laid out in a village style round a fountain , shops , a takeaway and a bus stand .
Sticking to plan A , I board the bus for a round trip of this salubrious area ,when the bus reaches its destination I take a walk round the block, looking for some traditional German architecture , taking advantage of their southern aspect and Autumn sunshine .The gardens have many tall trees and vines growing on some houses , it's definitely a very leafy area and most attractive with winding streets and secure front fences.
I chanced to meet Illoue a tall young architecture student, when asking for the bus stop .
This is another of those gems where I was lucky to meet someone interested in discussing house design. He had a gap year in Vancouver where he had time to forget his studies for a period and enjoy life.
I ask him about his childhood in the area ,he explains that he was given freedom to roam the forests in the area with safety .Now he is seeking a small apartment in the city where he can concentrate on study and not have long distances to travel .
He felt Frohnau was an affluent area where people wished to build solid conventional housing , rather than explore alternative housing methods.
I explain my theory of the Southern Hemisphere sun coming from the north so aspect is again important when locating a house, it's the reverse to the northern hemisphere .
By the time I get back to the station, after taking several photos of interesting houses ,it's time for lunch, I join the queue at the Donner Kebab shop , doing a roaring trade with hungry customers .
The low wall round the fountain presents an ideal seat in the sunshine to eat a nourishing takeaway without being sprayed by a spurting fountain .
The train journey back provided some entertainment with beggars touting for money, either to support their family or in another case , a flutist played a solo on his long wooden flute,we will never know if his melodonic activities keep him from penuary , but it is not an experience available on Sydney trains.,
