This Devils Mountain ,south of the Olympic grounds is the tallest of Berlin's rubble mountains at 115 meters.Built by citizens, initally most of them women during the clean up of bomb ravaged city after World War 11.It took 20 years to pile up 25 million cubic meters of debris
The hill is now a fun zone especially in snowy winters when hordes of kids toboggan or ski down its gentle slopes
This day had started at Heer Strasse station which was close to Flatowallee the location of Corbusierhaus .This honeycomb like housing estate set in wooded parklands designed by Le Corbusier ( 1887-1965) for the 1957 International Building Exibition ( Interbau )represents his attempt to address the post war housing shortage all over Europe, especiaqlly Berlin.
I had done a lot of walking this day possably 10 k's so after the high rise, walking through the forest up the mountain, last 100 meter very steep and through a thistle patch ,then down the other side not only was I parched but exhausted .It was time for coffee and lasange at this attractive cafe under the trees.
